Policy
As I begin my 27th year with the Tokyo Hiroo Rotary Club, I am deeply grateful for the many opportunities this club has given me. Through our weekly Thursday meetings, I have built friendships with Rotarians from around the world, broadened my perspectives, and participated in international service projects and Rotary events. These experiences and relationships have enriched my life immeasurably and remain among my most treasured assets.
This Rotary year, RI President Olayinka Hakeem Babalola has introduced the theme, “Create Lasting Impact.” His message challenges us to embrace change, pursue continuous improvement, and measure success not only by what we achieve today, but by the enduring difference we make for future generations. Rotary’s greatest accomplishments are those that continue creating value long after a project has been completed.
The Tokyo Hiroo Rotary Club is distinguished by its diversity. Our members represent a wide range of nationalities, generations, professions, and life experiences. While our backgrounds may differ, we share a common commitment to service, friendship, and the continued growth of our club. This diversity is one of Hiroo’s greatest strengths and a source of its vitality.
Last year, under the leadership of Past President Ochi, we strengthened our sense of unity—Teamship—by creating opportunities to listen to one another, deepen mutual understanding, and explore the unique value that defines Hiroo.
Building on that foundation, I have chosen the following theme for this Rotary year:
Action through Teamship
Hiroo is blessed with a wealth of talent, experience, knowledge, and creativity. This year, I hope we will move beyond simply sharing these strengths and transform them into meaningful action. By listening with respect, embracing our differences, and maintaining an open and inclusive culture, we can work together as one team while preserving the individuality that makes our club unique.
As we continue to reflect on questions such as “What defines Hiroo?” and “What should a truly global Rotary club be?” let us remain flexible, adapt to changing circumstances, and move forward with confidence and purpose. Through Teamship and Action, we can create lasting impact—for our members, our communities, and the world.
I look forward to serving alongside all of you as we shape the future of the Tokyo Hiroo Rotary Club and enjoy the journey together.
Goals
▶ Fulfilling Meetings and Fellowship
We will continue to nurture Hiroo’s welcoming and inclusive culture by creating meetings where every member feels valued, engaged, and inspired. In addition to inviting a diverse range of guest speakers, we will provide opportunities for members to exchange ideas, share experiences, and discuss the future direction of our club. We will also actively promote the digital transformation (DX) of club operations to enhance communication, efficiency, and member engagement.
▶ Key Service Activities
Music Mends Minds (MMM)
We will further develop this signature program, which uses the power of music to support seniors living with dementia. In addition to donating musical instruments to care facilities, we will enhance the program and expand participation through collaboration with other Rotary clubs and Interact students from the Canadian International School.
Zambia Maternal and Child Health Project
In partnership with the NPO ROCINANTES, we will support maternal and child healthcare in Zambia through the donation of ultrasound equipment and other essential medical devices, while also contributing to the training of healthcare professionals to ensure sustainable, long-term impact.
▶ Increasing Awareness and Membership
To increase awareness of our club’s activities and the Rotary experiences of our members, we will strengthen our communications through social media and other digital platforms. At the same time, we will seek to attract and retain individuals who share the international outlook and spirit of service that characterize Hiroo, ensuring a vibrant and sustainable future for our club.
